Section 1 — Problem Recognition

Does any of this sound familiar?

The same argument on repeat. A distance that crept in without either of you quite noticing. Wanting to feel like a team again. You do not need the right words for it here. You only need to be willing to look at it, together.

The same argument, over and over Growing distance Trust that needs rebuilding Different needs around intimacy Feeling more like roommates than partners Wanting to reconnect Life transitions Conflict that goes nowhere

A Common Question

Do you have to be on the verge of breaking up to try couples therapy?

No. Couples therapy is not only for the breaking point. It is for any partnership that wants more clarity, more connection, or a different way of moving through conflict. Maybe things are hard right now. Maybe things are fine, and you simply want to understand each other better.

You do not need to have it all figured out. You only need to be willing to slow down and look at the pattern together. That step, small as it may seem, is worth taking.

With greater awareness comes greater choice.

Section 3 - What Couples Therapy Can Help With
Where To Begin

What can couples therapy help with?

Every relationship is different. This work is not about fitting into a predetermined mold, it is about supporting the relationship you want to build.

Tap what resonates with you.

Communication that connects

Learning to say what you mean and hear what your partner means, even in the hard conversations.

Rebuilding trust

Working through breaches, big or small, at a pace that feels honest for both of you.

Understanding your conflict cycle

Noticing how conflict unfolds and where it gets stuck, so you can respond differently.

Intimacy and connection

Navigating differences in emotional or physical intimacy needs with more understanding.

Life transitions, together

Moving through change, a move, a new baby, a career shift, as a team instead of two people drifting.

Clarifying what you both want

Whether that is repair, reconnection, or thoughtfully evaluating what comes next.

Section 8 — FAQ
Common Questions

Still have questions?

What can couples therapy help with?

Couples therapy can help with communication challenges, conflict, trust concerns, differences in intimacy needs, and life transitions. Sessions may focus on improving communication, repairing trust, clarifying boundaries, and developing healthier ways to navigate conflict together.

Do you work with non-monogamous or polyamorous relationships?

Yes. We provide affirming, inclusive care for monogamous couples, polyamorous and ethically non-monogamous relationships, and partners across a wide range of structures and identities. Therapy is not about fitting into a predetermined mold, it is about supporting the relationship you want to build.

Do we have to be married to come to couples therapy?

Not at all. We work with partners at every stage, dating, engaged, married, long-term, and everything in between, along with blended families and co-parenting partners.

What if only one of us wants to come to therapy?

Couples therapy generally works best with both partners present, since the relationship itself is the client. If your partner is not ready to join yet, individual therapy can still be a useful place to start while you figure out next steps together.

What happens in our first session?

Your first session focuses on getting to know each other and understanding what brought you in, not immediate advice. Expect guided conversation about your relationship's history and what you are both hoping for, with space to ask questions of your own.

What if we don't feel a connection with our therapist?

It is more common than people expect, and it does not mean something is wrong with your relationship. If a therapist does not feel like the right fit for you both, say so. We will help you find someone on our team who does.

Do you take insurance?

Yes. We currently accept Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, Cigna, and Aetna.

How much does a session cost?

Initial intake sessions range from $160 to $200 for 55 minutes. Regular sessions are $150 for 55 minutes. We also offer sliding scale options for clients who qualify, reach out to our intake team to find a pricing option that fits your needs.

How long does couples therapy typically take?

It depends on what you and your partner are working through. Some couples benefit from a focused round of sessions, while others engage in longer-term work for deeper, lasting change. There is no fixed timeline.

Is virtual couples therapy as effective as in-person?

Yes. Sessions are held on a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform, and virtual couples therapy is available anywhere in Illinois, not just Andersonville.
